Rajasthan School Roof Collapse: 7 Children Killed; Locals Blames Administration's Negligence

Jhalawar, Rajasthan: At least seven students were killed, and several others sustained injuries after the roof of Piplodi Primary School in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar collapsed on Friday. Many students are reportedly trapped under the debris, as rescue operations continue to save them, reports news agency PTI.

Angry locals have blamed the administration for its negligence to the school building. Residents said that they had informed the tehsildar and sub-divisional magistrate about the poor condition of the school building. However, they claim, the administration took no action, highlighting that the tragic incident occurred due to the “negligence of the administration”, The Hindu quoted, Balkishan, a local resident. Video shared by the news agency shows villagers rushing to the site and helping to remove the debris from the collapsed building to locate the trapped people.

Many injured students have been taken to the hospital and several of them are in critical condition, according to  Superintendent of Police, Jhalawar, Amit Kumar. He confirmed the death of four children in the unfortunate incident.

There were at least 27 students studying in the upper primary school in Piplod village, which collapsed on Friday morning.

In a social media post, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said he took note of the school roof collapse incident, noting that authorities have been instructed to ensure proper treatment of the injured children.

“The tragic accident caused by the collapse of a school roof in Peeplodi, Jhalawar, is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. Instructions have been given to the concerned authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured children,” the chief minister wrote on X.
