“Shame PM Modi Was Endorsing Prajwala Yojana…”: Mahua Moitra

Trinamool Congress leader and Krishnanagar candidate Mahua Moitra took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi today for campaigning for BJP-led NDA’s Hassan Lok Sabha candidate Prajwal Revanna who has been accused of sexual abuse of many women from his constituency.

“Bit of a shame Hon’ble Narendra Modi was endorsing Prajwala Yojana rather than Ujwala Yojana,” she posted on X.

Thousands of obscene and sleazy videos of Prajwal Revanna emerged ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, in which the sitting Hassan JDS MP is reportedly seen harassing women. Following a recommendation by the state Women’s Commission, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on last week announced that the government has decided to form a special investigation team to look into the matter.

Prajwal Revanna is also the grandson of former prime minister and JDS chief HD Deve Gowda.

Earlier, the polling agent of Prajwal, currently the PM Modi-led NDA’s nominee in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, had approached the authorities with a complaint naming a Naveen as the person behind the sex videos leaked to the public to defame his candidate.

Earlier today, in a letter addressed to Karnataka DGIG of police Alok Madan, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said she is disturbed by the incident and asked to apprehend the accused, who has fled the country.

The Commission has also asked for a detailed report in three days on the measures taken.

“The National Commission for Women has come across multiple media reports indicating that several video clips of sexual nature, allegedly involving Mr Prajwal Revanna sitting MP for Lok Sabha from Hassan constituency sexually abusing hundreds of women were circulated on social media in recent days. The Commission strongly condemns the incident and is deeply disturbed by its occurrence. Such events not only endanger women’s safety but also foster a culture of disrespect and violence against them,” the Commission wrote to Mr Madan.
