As the Bollywood movie Article 370 hits theatres today, former Vice-President of JNU Students Union and human rights activist Shehla Rashid“s positive response on the movie is receiving attention. On her X handle, she lauded the movie, and her post is receiving backlashes since then.

Taking to X handle, Shehla Rashid wrote: “Four stars to Aditya Dhar’s 370 for casting (esp. Amit bhai), action sequences, strong female characters, and sensitivity. Tells the inside story of the bloodless removal of the paper wall named 370 without shrill rhetoric or creating disharmony.” She also added Best wishes to Yami Gautam, a lead actor in the movie.

Her post on the movie is garnering strong criticism on the social media. One user commented: “When they said kneel, she crawled.” Another user wrote: “370° masterstroke!.”

“The intellectual Dishonesty of Shehla Rashid is on other level. How can you face yourself?,” wrote an individual. Another individual commented: “You can”t make anyone do this by coercion. You can make them go silent or make generic statements but not this.”

Once a staunch critic of the PM Modi-led Centre and of authoritarian politics, she is now hitting headlines because of her surprising U-turn and for eulogising the same. Shehla Rashid and IAS officer Shah Faesal were among the 23 petitioners who had moved the Supreme Court challenging Government’s decision of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. However, in July last year both submitted an application for withdrawing their names from the list of petitioners and the Court has approved. Recently, she extended credit to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the “bloodless” political solution in Kashmir and also credited them along with Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir Police for “bringing peace to Kashmir.”

In December, Shehla Rashid supporting Supreme Court judgment on the abrogation of Article 370, wrote on X: “it results in some closure, and allows the people of J&K to move on.”

Helmed by National Award-winning Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 is based on the Central government”s decision to revoke special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir. The movie is receiving appreciation for Yami Gautam, Priyamani, and Arun Govil”s performances.
