Stand-Up Comedian Munawar Faruqui On Lawrence Bishnoi’s Hit List, Security Tightens (image- instagram/munawar.faruqui)

Days after the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has allegedly received threats from the criminal gang led by Lawrence Bishnoi.

Bishnoi who is jailed, is currently under investigation by the Mumbai police for his suspected involvement in the murder of former minister Baba Siddique.

Security for Munawar has been increased following the recent threat. A police officer has said that they have received the information about the potential threat to the comedian from the gang, however, the reason for the threat is unclear.

The city police last month had provided the comedian with police security as a precautionary measure after learning that a few members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang attempted to kill him in Delhi last month.

The gang members followed the Mumbai-based comedian, who is on the gang’s hit list and even booked themselves a room at the Delhi hotel where the comedian was lodged for performing at an event in September.

However, the police’s timely action helped them to foil the attack and Munawar went back to Mumbai under police cover.

Over the past few years, Faruqui has faced allegations from Hindu groups claiming that he hurt their sentiments during one of his shows, which he has firmly denied.

The Mumbai police have provided heavy security to the comedian as the threat still persists, especially in the wake of Baba Siddique’s murder.

Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra East on October 12. Later, Lawrance came forward claiming responsibility for the attack and stated that the veteran politician was killed because of his closeness with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

A senior Delhi police officer told PTI that the intent of the Bishnoi gang has now gone beyond just Salman, saying, “The gang is now trying to penetrate Bollywood, an area once ruled by Dawood Ibrahim, and set up its own D-Company.”
