Tamil Nadu is bracing for another round of rains and thunderstorms. As the weather prediction signals heavy downpour, the school and colleges of several districts around Chennai will remain closed on Tuesday.
With several districts already soaked including Chennai and Puducherry, the India Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy rainfall across the state. Authorities in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu have declared a holiday due to predictions of intense rainfall.

In the wake of the rain alert, Chief Minister MK Stalin has appealed to IT firms to instruct employees to work from home between October 15 and 18.
Chennai city police have mobilised about 300 specially trainer armed reserve police personnel around the low lying areas in the city. Moreover, a temporary control room has been formed to coordinate with GCC and fire service departments.

In the anticipation of heavy rainfall predicted in several parts of the state for the next four days, the 108 Emergency Medical Services has set up a control centre in Pudukkottai. With the new centre EMRI, an agency outsourced by the state for running ambulances, uninterrupted medical emergency services will be ensured , especially in the event of disruptions caused by the impending downpour.
With the state’s relative humidity at a high of 96%, IMD has cautioned that thunderstorms and strong winds—between 40 to 60 km/h—are likely, particularly in coastal districts. Puducherry is also expected to experience similar conditions, with predictions of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and squalls.
