Vikramasingapuram, Tamil Nadu: Parents of a 17-year-old boy who died while undergoing counselling at a de-addiction and rehabilitation centre, have alleged that the boy was beaten to death by the staff of the centre.

The boy was admitted to a government-approved de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at Vikramasingapuram and had died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday evening. The deceased teenager, a resident of Thiruvengadam town in Tenkasi district, had earlier received treatment for mental health issues at a Tirunelveli-based private hospital, The New Indian Express reported.

He was admitted to the government-approved rehabilitation centre on June 10 for counselling. Levelling the murder allegations against the staff, the boy’s father said that he was denied permission to meet his son a few days ago. He said he was told to pay charges on Thursday morning, and the police informed them about the death the same evening.

“I was told that my son had been declared dead at the Government Hospital in Ambasamudram. We noticed injuries on his body. The staff of the centre have beaten my son to death,” the report quoted the father.

The father further said that he was sent to the de-addiction centre after being adamant on buying a two-wheeler
