Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai has once again landed in a controversy over his behaviour to a female reporter ahead of his visit to Delhi. The incident took place during a press conference in Coimbatore on Sunday, when a women reporter asked him a question that whether he would remain with BJP if he was not the state unit President. This annoyed him and asked her to come next to him so that everyone on TV could know who asked such a question.
“Come here sister, come and talk from here. Let the people of Tamil Nadu see who is asking such questions,” he reacted. He gestured her to the mic spot where he was standing.
When the other reporters protested against his behaviour, he said,” Let the eight-crore people see who this intelligent person is, asking questions like whether I would continue in the BJP if I am not state president. There is a norm for asking questions. I will not spare those who cross that norm, whoever it is”.
“I’m not a full-time politician. Being a farmer is my identity, then a politician and then being with BJP,” he added.
The reporters expressed their discontent, Annamalai said that he was just advising the reporter to ask questions in proper manner. “Sister, I want you to grow in this field. You should come up to a high position, which needs a bit of ethics. It needs professional grounding. Whatever is wrong, say that it is wrong. Whatever is right, say that it is right. I will be the first person to admire it. But the questions should follow a norm. My anger comes from wanting all of you to grow in the field. You shouldn’t hop from one channel to another and then become a nobody at 40 years old. You should become an editor in chief in Delhi,” he said.
The Tamil Nadu Chief was in Coimbatore as a part of the Union Government’s Swacchta Hi Seva clean-up campaign. He was on his way to head to Delhi to meet BJP’s organising secretary BL Santhosh, after AIADMK formally announced quitting the National Democratic Alliance.
AIADMK’s exit from the BJP led alliance has been a huge shocker for BJP. BJP is now trying to bring them back to the alliance to face the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha election, reports The News Minute.
