Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi hit back at Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi as a response to Mrs Gandhi”s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier on Wednesday (September 6), Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi raising objection on the decision to hold special parliamentary session, which is scheduled on September 18 – 22, without consulting the opposition parties.
On an X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Joshi responded saying that it is “yet another desperate attempt” of Sonia Gandhi and Congress party to create an issue out of nothing.

The government has convened the session as per the provisions of the constitution and the due procedure has been followed.

In a letter addressed to Mrs Gandhi, Mr.Joshi points that Sonia Gandhi is “politicising the functions of parliament”. He further added on X that it is unreasonable for Mrs Gandhi to create unnecessary controversy about parliament.

“It is extremely unfortunate that you are trying to politicize the functioning of Parliament, the temple of our democracy, and create unnecessary controversy where there is none.” Mr. Joshi said in letter.
He further added that the special session of parliament was called according to the provisions and rules laid down under Article 85 of the constitution. “As you are aware, Parliament sessions are held regularly in compliance with the constitutional mandate under Article 85”.
He also clarified that discussions on parliamentary sessions and its agendas only takes place after the President notifies the session.
“The agenda of the session will be circulated at the appropriate time as per the usual practice established. I would also like to point out again that in our parliamentary functioning, irrespective of which party is in government, till date the agenda has never been circulated in advance at the time of convening the Parliament”, he said in the letter.
Mr. Joshi also took a dig at Sonia Gandhi by saying that perhaps she does not pay “attention to tradition”.
Responding to Mr Joshi, Congress said, “On each and every occasion of a Special Session/Sitting, the agenda was well known in advance. It is only the Modi government that routinely disrespects Parliament and distorts Parliamentary conventions.”
How much will you mislead Joshi-avare?
