
US Deports Telangana Student Over Fake Docs; Agent Also Arrested (image:Pixabay)
Hyderabad, Telangana: A student, identified as Gopal Reddy was arrested in Hyderabad after being deported from the US for using fake education documents to secure visa. The 28-year-old was arrested from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on June 1, Sunday after his arrival from Dallas. He had been pursuing a master’s degree at Webster University in Missouri.
Shamshabad Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) V. Sreekanth Goud said that after staying in the US for 15 months, Reddy returned to India in 2024 and overstayed for 5 months. In May 2025, he went back to the US but got deported from Dallas airport since the immigration officials found an inactive Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) status. This deportation urged an enquiry by the immigration authorities in RGIA.

During the interrogation, Reddy admitted to the Police officials that he had secured his student visa using fake degree certificates. He said that K. Ashok, managing director of Sri Dhanalakshmi Overseas Private Limited arranged forged certificates for him.
Following Reddy’s statement, the police arrested Ashok on June 2. A search operation at the Ashok’s office led to the seizure of 17 counterfeit certificates from various universities and ₹10 lakh in cash, The Hindu reports.

During the questioning, Ashok confessed to sending 15 students abroad over the past five years using fake documents. Police are continuing their investigation to trace these students and other people involved in the network. Reddy and Ashok have been remanded to judicial custody.
