Uttar Pradesh: Dalit Girl Thrown Into Boiling Sugarcane Juice For Protesting Against Molestation

A Dalit girl was allegedly pushed into boiling sugarcane juice at a jaggery unit in Uttar Pradesh”s Baghpat when she protested a molestation attempt. The 18-year old girl suffered 50% burns on her hands, face and stomach, a senior police officer said. She was shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi, officer added.

The incident took place on Thursday at Dhanaura village under the district”s Binaluli police limits. She works at the cane crusher and a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Police added.

“The matter came to fore on Saturday when the victim”s family put up a video narrating her ordeal. The main accused, a worker at the crusher, tried to molest her. He was joined by the owner (40) and his aide (45). The three men were arrested the same day and sent to jail,” Times of India quotes as Baghpat SP Arpit Vijayvargiya saying.

Mahendra Pal Singh, SHO of Binauli added that the girl who has been inflicted with serious burns, was initially brought to a nearby community health centre and then transferred to a higher medical facility.

Later, her brother lodged a police complaint stating that the perpetrator hurled casteist remarks and attempted to kill her. Police has lodged an First Information Report (FIR) against the accused under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (intentional insult), 307 (attempt to murder), and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act.
