The bus was on its way to Ramnagar when it lost control and fell into the gorge near Bhikiyasen. According to Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Devendra Pincha, there were around eighteen people in the bus.
Uttarakhand has been a hotspot of bus accident as the state marks over 1,000 road accidents every year. One of the major reasons for the accidents are the unscientific roads across the mountainous terrain often exacerbating the danger. The treacherous, winding, and narrow roads in between the gorge significantly increase the risk for passengers travelling in these routes.
