In yet another shocking incident, a bus carrying pilgrims, fell into a gorge after the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the death of three and the injury of another 24 people. The mishap happened near Gangnani on the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand on Tuesday night, according to police.
The deceased was identified as Deepa Tiwari, a resident of Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, Neema Teda and Meena Rekwal, both residents of Haldwani,
Police said that after the driver lost control, the bus broke the crash barrier and fell into the gorge. It was struck by a tree before it could hit the bottom. The bus was en route to Uttarkashi from Gangotri carrying 27 pilgrims. The injured have been rushed to the Uttarkashi District Hospital and Bhatwadi Health Centre as the rescue and relief works were promptly began.

Notably, in the same location, several such mishaps have been reported in the past. In 2010, a truck, which was on the way to Gangotri, fell into the 150-metre deep gorge killing 23 people, including the crew. It was carrying ‘Kanwarias’ (Shiva devotees).
In 2023, the place saw another accident when a car fell into Kali river near Lakhanpur, killing seven pilgrims. The devotees were returning after a ‘darshan’ of Adi Kailash.
