“What a Shame…” Owaisi Reacts To Mob Attack On Foreign Students For Offering Namaz

Five international students were beaten up at the Gujarat university while offering namaz on the campus. Slamming the incident, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi called it a shameful act.

The students from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka were allegedly attacked by a group of people in their hostel rooms. Owaisi calling it a mass radicalisation asks whether the devotion and religious slogans come out only when Muslims peacefully practice their religion. He then asks whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah will be ready to send a strong message being the incident has taken place in their home state.

The students blamed the police reached on to the spot after the intruders had fled. Videos of the attack have gone viral on social media.

Bringing the incident to the attention of external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar, Owaisi wrote, “Domestic anti-Muslim hatred is destroying India’s goodwill.”

Journalist Rana Ayyub commenting on the issue wrote on X,” Foreign students offering Ramzan prayers ‘inside’ the hostel attacked by fundamentalists chanting Jai Shri Ram. Hallmark of a robust democracy”.

The attackers with sticks and knives stormed into the hostel attacked the foreign students and vandalized them. The students have said that the security guard of the hostel tried to stop them but failed. A student from Afghanistan said people in the mob raised slogans and raised questions that who allowed them to offer namaz in the hostel. The student alleged that the mob broke laptops, and phones and even damaged bikes.

Since there was no facility on the campus to offer Taraweeh prayer, the students opted to perform the namaz inside their hostel rooms.

The injured students have been admitted to the SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad. And their condition is said to be stable reports India Today. The incident took place in Block A of Gujarat University where the foreign students reside.

Neerajkumar Badgujar, the additional commissioner of police for Ahmedabad city confirmed that FIR has been filed and assured that the attackers will be arrested soon.
