According to The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a governmental organization in India, that collects and analyses crime- information based on the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Local Laws (SLL), Kozhikode was ranked 10th among the top ten safest cities in India. NCRB operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Kozhikode with a 397.5 rate of recognizable crimes (IPC) became one of the top 10 cities where people can live with relatively more safety in India.
As per the NCRB reports, Kolkata with the rate of IPC 78.5 became the safest city in India, followed by Chennai, Coimbatore and Surat. Kolkata retains the position of the safest city in India for the third consecutive year. The city maintained its position by registering the lowest number of cognizable offences as per the population among the metropolises.

The other cities included in the top ten safest cities are Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. For the visitors and the residents, the commitment of the authorities to safety is an important concern and cities in India over the years have been trying to ensure the safety and well-being of their residents. By enforcing efficient laws, these top 10 cities have earned their superiority in being the safest place.
However, Kozhikode is the only city from Kerala to be ranked among the top ten safest Indian cities.
