The Union Public Service Commission will implement Aadhaar-based authentification for various examinations conducted by the commission. As per the reports, the Aadhaar requirement will be voluntary. The personnel department notified UPSC to adhere to all provisions of the Aadhaar Act, rules and regulations, and directives from the Unique Identification Authority of India.
The Wednesday notification of DoPT has authorized UPSC to use Aadhaar for the authentification voluntarily to verify candidates’ identity during registration on the ‘One Time Registration’ portal and at various stages of examinations or recruitment tests.
The decision is in line with upholding the integrity of the UPSC examination process. The move becomes important after the controversy of a trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar of the 2022 batch. She was found to have violated rules by manipulating her identity and misusing OBC and PwD category certificates. UPSC has debarred her from all future UPSC examinations.

Similarly, in order to make the security process more stringent UPSC has decided to take some additional measures. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is planning to revamp the civil services exam through technological solutions. The commission will use technologies including Aadhaar-based fingerprint authentication and facial recognition systems and closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Every year the UPSC conducts 14 examinations including Civil Services Examinations (CSE) and several recruitment tests and interviews for induction to Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ posts in the Government of India.
To protect the sanctity of the examination and to avoid any malpractice during the exam commission has taken strict measures in the case of Puja Khedkar case and similarly have issued other directives with respect to photo of the candidate while filling up the application form.
