Anand Mahindra Adds Palakkad Village's Agraharam To Bucket List, Calls A 'Perfect Escape From Rush'

Palakkad, Kerala: Indian billionaire businessman, Anand Gopal Mahindra on Sunday shared a video showing a South Indian village located in Kerala’s Palakkad district.  The chair of Mahindra Group, the Mumbai-based  automotive business conglomerate, calling him a ‘Sunday Wanderer,’ expressed his wish to step into the village and become a “silent participant in its rhythm, simplicity, and grace.”

The video shows traditional agraharam which is a common sight in Palakkad and many villages in Tamil Nadu. Agraharam is a Brahmin neighborhood in South India. It is a traditional, well-planned settlement of row houses on either side of a central road, often with a temple at the center, resembling a garland. As a land grant, it was an endowment of land, village, or fields by royalty to Brahmins for religious purposes.

“This is apparently a village in Palakkad, Kerala. Shared by @iAkankshaP. to depict a ‘South Indian Village Morning.’ It’s not a tourist destination, nor is it trying to be. But at its best, travel awakens us to moments that are authentic, experiences that endure in our memories. And today, as a #SundayWanderer, I found myself wishing I could step into this village and become a silent participant in its rhythm, simplicity, and grace. The perfect escape from the relentless pace of modern life,” the businessman wrote on X.

Hilaroiusly, an X user Vijay, commented under Andand Mahindra’s post that such ‘rhythm and simplicity’ is fading. He pointed out that such a street in his maternal village is now empty as the latest generations moved abroad.

“The sharpest irony? Right near Tech Mahindra in Electronic City, places like ‘Roopena Agrahara’ & ‘Konappana Agrahara’ were once exactly this, before being absorbed by the ‘relentless pace’ you mentioned,” Vijay wrote on X.
