After deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras as a means to cut down the scale of accidents and traffic violations, the mission has started to show positive results, as per the Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju. He was talking to National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers in a leadership camp.

Mr. Raju also stated that earlier the number of traffic violation reported every month was around 4.5 lakh which was now reduced to 2.5 lakh.

“Before the installation of Artificial Intelligence cameras, around 4.5 lakh traffic violations were being reported in the state every month. With the installation of cameras in June, this has come down to 2.5 lakh. The number of road accidents also come down,” said Mr. Raju.

“The AI cameras have reported law violations from the VIPs to commoners, proving that everyone is equal before the law. The state has been able to prove that AI cameras were beneficial to society,” he further added.

The Artificial Intelligence cameras are deployed all across the Kerala state to monitor traffic violations and cut down occurrences of accidents under Safe Kerala Project.

He also stated that various transport officials from states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has visited Kerala to study about the working of the AI camera in bringing down the rate of traffic violations and deaths, as per report.

According to government report, lives lost to road this year were 67, a stark drop from last year which recorded the road fatalities to be 300.

The Congress objected the installation of Al cameras by raising corruption charges against Safe Kerala Project since its inauguration. They demanded answer on why the installation of Artificial Intelligence cameras were given to Keltron (Kerala State Electronic Development Corporation Limited), which allegedly makes no components. Mr. Raju has retaliated to this by stating the opposition party”s remark to be highly unfair and pointed that ISRO used the components made from Keltron was used in Chandrayaan -3 and Aditya L1 and further added that “Keltron is a source of pride for the state and the country”.
