Thiruvananthapuram: Former MLA A Pradeep Kumar has been appointed as the private secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The appointment follows K K Ragesh’s transition to the role of Kannur district secretary of the CPI(M).

A seasoned politician and influential leader within the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Pradeep Kumar has represented Kozhikode North constituency for three consecutive terms.

Known for his strong roots in student and youth movements, he previously served as state secretary of the SFI and DYFI and currently holds a place in the CPI(M) state committee.

Pradeep Kumar is widely credited for his impactful contributions to Kerala’s public education system. As an MLA, he spearheaded the PRISM project (Promoting Regional Institutions through Strategic Modernisation), which transformed several government educational institutions in Kozhikode into centres of excellence. The initiative garnered praise for promoting quality, accessibility, and innovation in public education.

A respected organiser and party loyalist, Kumar’s elevation to the Chief Minister’s Office is seen as a strategic move by the CPI(M) as it prepares for the upcoming electoral battle.

Speaking to the media following his appointment, Pradeep Kumar expressed gratitude and humility. “This post is a responsibility entrusted to me by the party. The Chief Minister personally spoke to me about the role, and I will work sincerely to support the government’s efforts,” he said.

He added that the role was not just administrative but political, aimed at strengthening the party-government interface as Kerala gears up for elections. “Kerala society has consistently shown its support for progressive governance. I will do my part to maintain that trust,” he told the media. 

The reshuffle, including KK Ragesh’s move to Kannur and Pradeep Kumar’s new post in the CM’s office, is seen as part of a broader strategic restructuring within the CPI(M) to strengthen its organisational machinery ahead of the polls.
