Heartbreaking Stories From Wayanad's Mundakkai

Mundakkai, the epicenter of the landslides in Wayanad, has remained isolated, and heartbreaking stories of helpless people stranded in the region are coming in every minutes since the tragedy struck the hill region. Visuals of demolished houses, vehicles, and bodies being recovered from the rivers shows the extent of the destruction due to the massive landslide.

The situation in Munkakkai has been extremely dangerous, as it has been difficult for the rescue teams to reach out to the epicenter, which has been remaining isolated.

Swapna, a resident of Chooralmala, is worried about her relatives staying in Mundakkai. Swapna broke down, speaking to the channels, lamenting about her uncle, brother, and other relatives, saying that there is no trace of them being received from the region. She recalls that due to recent heavy rain, her relatives had moved to a school but worries that the huge landslide is reported to have washed away the places involving the school where they were sheltered, Swapna weeps.

Megha, another loved one of those stranded in Mundakkai, speaks about her husband, mother, and other relatives not attending phone calls. Megha says she saw in the media that one of her relatives is dead, while information regarding others is completely obscure.

At least fifty houses are believed to have washed away by the massive landslides. The heartbreaking visuals of dead bodies, recovered from the Chaliyar rivers, are adding worry to the grieved relatives of those stranded in Mundakkai.

The casualties from the landslides that struck Meppadi, Mundakkai Town, and Chooral Mala today morning, has been increasing. As the death toll rises to 88, there are 125 hospitalized, and many others remain missing in the calamity-hit area. The first landslide occurred in Mundakkai Town at around 1 am, while the second happened at 4 pm  near Chooralmala School. The shops, houses, and shelter areas nearby are reported to be flooded with water and mud, leaving many vulnerable to fatalities.
