As a massive landslides hit Kerala’s Wayanad early morning today, the plight of the affected region seems to be beyond the visible picture. The visuals from the local media show terrifying glimpses of the water and mud, with bodies of the deceased being recovered each passing time. As fatalities are rising above 80, it has been reported that hudrends are missing, and the rescued family members are searching for their loved ones.

Many regions are reported to be isolated with the huge landslide, where several people are stranded without connection with outside world. Along with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), the army has also launched search and rescue operations. It is reported that the rescue personnel are not able to reach the isolated areas due to the force of the calamity.

Mundakkai, a crowded residential area that has been totally isolated by the disastrous landslide, is crying for help through the media. According to a report by 24 news, the worried stranded people can only see the town and buildings covered by the mud. Many of those, who managed to find shelter in some hilly areas, are expressing their concern for the safety of the residents in Mundakkai. Moreover, scattered dead bodies are being recovered from Chaliyar river, which is believed be from the landslide in Mundakkai.

Helicopters have also been deployed to airlift stranded people. To reach  Mundakkai, a temporary bridge is also being build. The incessant rain and huge water flow has been disrupting the rescue efforts.
