Kalamassery Prayer Meet Blasts: What We Know

In a tragic incident of blast happened in Eranakulam district of Kerala during a prayer meet of Jehova’s Witnesses. Around 2000 people participated in the meet, as per report. At least one individual was killed and around 36 were injured.

Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking the details about the situation. Report says, National security Guard and National Intelligence Agency are sent to Kerala under the direction of the Home Minister to assess the situation.

“The Home Minister spoke to the Chief Minister to take stock of the situation after the blast. The Chief Minister briefed the Home Minister about the incident”, said a source to Times Of India.

The Kerala State DGP, Dr Shaik Darvesh Saheb asked people to remain calm and avoid any sort of social media campaign and warned about “stringent actions” to be taken against any “provocative posts”. While talking to reporters, the DGP also added that a “thorough investigation” is under process. Mr. Darvesh said the preliminary investigation points out the cause of the blast might be the use of IED device and said the police is examining it.

Health Minister Veena George said though there would not be major increase in the number of injured, the figure might reach 50. Among the injured, around 10, including a 10 year old boy suffered more than 50 percentage burn, as per a report.

Meanwhile BJP leader KJ Alphonse blamed the blast on “terrorists” who has been working in the state for a long time. Responding to the blast, the former Union Minister told news agency ANI that the situation in Kerala is critical. He said,” I have been warning for a long time that in Kerala, both left and right, is supporting terrorism”. Mr. Alphons added that terrorism has been happening in Kerala for a very long time and that “today Kerala is in the grip of terrorism”.
