Karnataka To Build 100 Houses For Wayanad Landslide Survivors: CM Siddaramaiah

On Saturday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the state stands in solidarity with Kerala in light of the destructive landslides that hit Wayanad district.

Over 340 people have died in one of the worst landslides hit in Kerala. Rescue teams have resumed operations on the fifth day as more than 200 people are still missing and feared trapped under debris.

Taking to X, Siddaramaiah stated that the state will construct 100 houses for those affected by the tragic incident. “In light of the tragic landslide in Wayanad, Karnataka stands in solidarity with Kerala. I have assured CM Shri Pinarayi Vijayan of our support and announced that Karnataka will construct 100 houses for the victims. Together, we will rebuild and restore hope,” he said.

Replying to the initiative, senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed his gratitude to the Karnataka government and its citizens for supporting the people of Wayanad. “Your commitment to building 100 houses for the victims of the tragic landslide is a significant step towards rehabilitation efforts. The compassion and solidarity of Indians are the strengths that Wayanad needs right now.”

The former Wayanad MP assured, “Our immediate focus is on rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. The Congress family is committed to building over 100 houses here. We are dedicated to ensuring that all possible assistance is provided to our brothers and sisters in this time of need.”

Both Rahul and Priyanka inspected Chooralmala, one of the regions hit by the landslide, and met the survivors, who are currently seeking shelter in hospitals and relief camps set up by the state government.
