Kerala: Court Acquits All Three Accused In Riyas Moulavi Murder

A trial Court in Kasaragod, Kerala, today (March 30) acquitted all three accused in the murder of a Madrasa teacher, Mohammad Riyas Maulavi. The 34-year-old Riyas Maulavi was hacked to death in the early hours of March 20, 2017, near the Masjid in Churi, Kasaragod.

The murderers had reportedly barged into the living room of the Masjid and slit his throat. According to reports, the accused had no prior rivalry with the victim.

The pronouncement of the verdict has been made after several postponements. Talking about the judgement, the prosecution said that the verdict was “unfortunate and painful” and the Court acquitted all the accused despite having proper scientific evidence against them.

“Can”t leave the case, will move forward with an appeal,” the prosecutor added while speaking to the reporters.

Reportedly, all three accused –  Ajesh alias Appu, Nithinkumar and Akhilesh alias Akhil – are affiliated with a Hindutva outfit from Kelugudde.
