Kerala Police Warns Against Spreading Fake News in Wake of Convention Center Blast

In light of the recent explosion at a convention center in Kalamassery, Kerala, India, the Kerala Police has issued a warning against spreading fake news on social media. According to a statement from the police, those who spread fake news will face strict action.

One person was killed and 36 others were injured in multiple explosions at a prayer meeting of Jehovah”s Witnesses in the Kalamassery area of Kochi, Kerala, on Sunday morning. Over 2,000 people were participating in the prayer meeting when the bombs exploded.

Kerala DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb said that a preliminary investigation indicates that the perpetrators used an improvised explosive device (IED) placed inside a lunchbox.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and sought information about the incident.

Mr Vijayan termed the incident as “very unfortunate” and said that all top officials are in Ernakulam and are taking the matter very seriously. “I have spoken to the DGP. We need to get more details after the investigation,” Mr Vijayan said.
