In a heartwarming gesture, students from Vithura Vocational Higher Secondary School in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram successfully raised Rs 8 lakh to build a house for their classmate Ansiya, who had suffered the loss of her father this year. Notably, the students made this achievement in a span of 100 days.

The students decided to build a house for their classmate as they found that she was living with her mother, elder sister, and grandmother in challenging conditions. Ansiya”s father passed away in July after a sudden illness. Instead of simply asking for donations, the students embarked on various entrepreneurial ventures to raise the funds. Students organised food festivals, initiated a newspaper challenge, and sold consumer goods in association with local firms. Students also collected funds through the sale of uniform material.

Finally, with the help of parents and teachers, students collected 8 lakh and built the house in record time on the five cents of land owned by the girl’s family at Neyyappally. “It”s a memorable event in our school”s history. It”s a shining chapter in the teaching career of all of us,” India Today quoted school principal Manjusha AR as saying. Apart from these fundraising efforts, these students, including National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, conducted numerous initiatives to help people in their local community. They distributed food packets to the needy on all working days, planted 100 saplings named “Goodness Trees,” organised a blood donation camp, and also conducted palliative care activities.
