Nimisha Priya Likely To Be Executed This Week: K.A. Paul Seeks Media Ban In Supreme Court

K.A. Paul Claims Nimisha Priya May Be Hanged Soon, Requests Media Ban In SC

Evangelist and Global Peace Initiative founder K.A. Paul has approached the Supreme Court of India seeking a temporary ban on media coverage related to the case of Nimisha Priya, the Indian nurse facing execution in Yemen, as per the reports.

Paul claimed that Nimisha Priya may be hanged on either August 24 or 25, and urged that the media be restrained from reporting on the matter during this critical period.

According to the reports, Paul personally appeared before the Supreme Court and filed a petition requesting that the media be barred from covering any news about Nimisha Priya for at least three days.

He further demanded that members of the support committee, including activist Subhash Chandra and Islamic scholar Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, also be prohibited from making public statements or engaging with the media on the case.

According to Paul’s submission, crucial negotiations are currently taking place in Yemen, and any premature or speculative media coverage could jeopardise the outcome.

He informed the court that, contrary to allegations, he had not received any money from either Subhash Chandra or Kanthapuram. “I have not met them, nor do I have any connection with them. I have not accepted even a single dollar,” Paul clarified before the bench.

The Supreme Court, while hearing his plea, issued a notice to the Attorney General. The matter has been scheduled for a hearing on August 25, when the court may deliver its order.

Paul has been facing allegations of financial misconduct in connection with Nimisha Priya’s case. Complaints were raised that he had attempted to collect fraudulent funds under the guise of raising money for her release.

A controversial post appeared on Paul’s official X account, claiming that contributions for Nimisha Priya’s freedom should be deposited into a Ministry of External Affairs account of the Government of India. However, the Ministry swiftly clarified that the post was fake and that no such fundraising effort had been authorised.

Following this, the family of Nimisha Priya lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Minister, accusing Paul of misleading the public and exploiting the sensitive case for personal gain.

Nimisha Priya, a Kerala-born nurse, has been imprisoned in Yemen after being convicted of a murder case. She faces the death penalty, and multiple humanitarian and diplomatic efforts have been ongoing to secure her release.

With the possibility of execution looming later this month, the case has gained widespread attention in India, intensifying calls for government intervention and international negotiation.
