
Amid Insistence For Execution, Yemeni Family Agrees To Negotiate Through Sufi Scholar
Sana’a, Yemen: The family of a deceased Yemeni citizen, Talal Abdo Mahdi, has reportedly expressed their cooperation for a negotiation in Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya’s execution case. The discussion is expected to take place through a Sufi scholar, local media reported, citing sources.
On Wednesday, Abdelfattah Mahdi, the brother of Talal, had shared a Facebook post stating the family will accept nothing less than the execution of the convict, despite mounting pressure to accept reconciliation.

The Yemeni authorities on Tuesday temporarily postponed the execution of Nimisha Priya after high-stake interventions involving religious leaders from Kerala and Yemen. The execution was originally scheduled for July 16, Wednesday, and the deferment came as a big relief for the convict nurse in Yemen.
A religious leader, who is called the ‘grand mufti of India’, Sheikh Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar, played a key role in the postponement of the Kerala native’s execution.

A native of Kollengode in Kerala’s Palakkad district, the Indian nurse was convicted of murdering her business partner and Yemeni citizen, and has been in jail awaiting her death sentence.
