The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) on Monday in a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the victims who had opened up before the Hema Committee are being dragged into irresponsible media trials by local media channel ‘Reporter’ violating the court order.
On September 10, the Kerala High Court directed the government to hand over the full-fledged Hema Committee report to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) including the parts which were earlier redacted. The Court has ordered the SIT to review the entire report and initiate legal action if any offense, cognizable or otherwise, has been made out. “This highly confidential statement that the Hema Committee and the court and the government had decided not to publish in the interests of the privacy of the victims is now being released through the ‘Reporter TV’ channel. Such a situation throws a cloud of suspicion over the motives of at least some who are in possession of the report,” the WCC wrote in the letter.

The collective had earlier met with the Chief Minister to discuss the concerns of women in the Malayalam film industry.
They further alleged that the information leak was in such a way that the reports made it easier to identify the victims who had made the statement.
“This is causing immense mental strain for the victims and had put their lives in jeopardy,” the WCC said.
The collective stated that such an “unprincipled onslaught on the victims’ privacy is unjust” and urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter immediately.
On Monday Reporter TV aired testimonies of a female actor, in which she accuses a director and actor of rape attempt.

In the wake of the Hema Committee report, based on the allegations, so far 23 cases have been filed against prominent figures in the Malayalam industry including director Ranjith, actors Siddique, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, Edvela Babu and Baburaj.
The entire Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) along with its 17-member executive committee was dissolved following allegations of sexual abuse made by several female actors.
