Rahul Gandhi Skips Kozhikode Rally Amid Sonia Gandhi’s Hospitalisation, Kharge Steps In
Kozhikode: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will not attend the much-anticipated election rally in Kozhikode today, prompting a last-minute change in the party’s Kerala campaign strategy.
The decision comes after his mother, Sonia Gandhi, was admitted to a Delhi hospital late Tuesday evening.
According to party sources, Sonia Gandhi, 79, was taken to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for what has been described as a routine medical check-up, although earlier reports suggested she had experienced discomfort prior to admission.

Rahul Gandhi chose to remain in the national capital, cancelling his scheduled visit to Kerala.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will now address the key rally in Kozhikode. The event is expected to kickstart the party’s intensified outreach campaign ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections.
Kerala is set to go to the polls on April 9 to elect representatives to its 140-member legislative assembly.
Political parties have begun aggressive campaigning across the state, making today’s rally particularly significant for the Congress-led front.
Rahul Gandhi’s absence has also cast uncertainty over his participation in the all-party meeting scheduled later today in New Delhi. The meeting, convened by the Centre, will focus on the escalating crisis in West Asia.

The session will be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with key briefings expected from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The meeting is slated to take place within the Parliament complex at 5 pm.
Notably, Rahul Gandhi had earlier indicated he might miss the meeting due to his Kerala tour, but his visit has now been cancelled—leaving no official confirmation about his attendance.
The all-party meeting gains significance as tensions in West Asia enter their fourth week, with growing implications for global trade and energy security. Disruptions in maritime routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, have triggered volatility in oil prices and heightened concerns over inflation and supply chains.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently termed the situation an “unprecedented crisis” while addressing both Houses of Parliament, underlining its long-term global impact.
