Sharon Murder Case: Accused Girlfriend Greeshma Gets Death Sentence

Kerala: A Kerala court on Monday ruled death sentence to Greeshma, the primary accused in the murder of 23-year-old Sharon Raj. Both were in relationship since they met during their time at a private college in  Kanyakumari, reportedly maintaining close contact for over a year.

It is alleged that Greeshma wanted to get rid of her boyfriend after her family arranged her marriage to another man. Greeshma then conspired with her mother and uncle to kill Sharon. On October 14, 2022, when Sharon visited Greeshma at her residence in Kanyakumari, she allegedly gave him an Ayurvedic tonic laced with poison leading to his death later in the hospital.

The order was passed by Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court Judge AM Basheer and the third accused, Greeshma’s uncle Nirmal Kumar was sentenced to imprisonment for three years. Notably, Greeshma’s mother, Sindhukumari was acquitted. Both uncle and mother were accused of destroying the evidence by concealing the bottle of poison.

The court found Greeshma guilty under Sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting to murder), 328 (causing hurt by poison), 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of IPC.

The Sharon Raj murder case has sparked widespread outrage and anger among the public towards the accused. The accused Greeshma and her mother and uncle were arrested on October 31. a Crime Branch special investigation team led by DySP Johnson conducted an in depth investigation. The prosecution charged Greeshma with murder, abduction with intent to murder, and destruction of evidence under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Following the murder, users on social media called Greeshma ruthless while observing her purported silly gesture.
