A Fast Track Special Court in Kerala sentenced a woman to rigorous imprisonment for a period of twenty years for abetting her lover in raping her seven-year-old daughter. The order was passed by Thiruvananthapuram Fast-Track Special Judge Rekha R. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the 43-year-old woman.
The shocking incident took place between March 2018 and September 2019. The accused, who left her mentally ill husband, was living with her lover, Shishupalan. During this time, Shishupalan brutally abused the child several times. Live Law reported that the victim was only seven years old at the time of the incident. However, despite being aware of this incident, the mother repeatedly took the child to Shishupalan”s house. The victim”s elder sister was also sexually abused by Shishupalan. This came to light after the grandmother of the children registered a complaint. Both victims are later moved to a children”s home. The girls disclosed the details of the assault during a counselling session.
During the trial, the court noted that the mother”s action is “unpardonable and a blot on motherhood.” The court also made the observation that the victim had lost her precious childhood due to her mother. The court examined 22 witnesses and 33 documents in this case and took into account the testimony of the minor victim. Notably, the trial was held only against the mother, as the first accused, Shishupalan, committed suicide during the trial.
