Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath and his son Nakul Nath are set to join the BJP, according to reports. Kamal Nath, senior Congress leader and former union minister, is expected to meet senior BJP leadership today.
This speculation came just a day after Madhya Pradesh BJP chief V D Sharma said that the doors were open for the former chief minister to join the party. Nakul Nath has also dropped Congress from his social media account bio.
But while speaking to the reporters, Congress leader Kamal Nath said, “Why are you all getting excited? It is not about denying. I will inform you all if there is something like that…”

Meanwhile, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has rubbished the rumors of former Madhya Pradesh Chief minister. He said that he had spoken with Kamal Nath yesterday and he is in Chhindwara. “A person who started his political journey and stood with the Nehru-Gandhi family when Indira Gandhi was sent to jail, do you think he will ever leave Congress and the Gandhi family?” he said while speaking to PTI.
The development has come as a major blow to the grand old party as several leaders of the party switched sides earlier this week.
Former MLA Dinesh Ahirwar and Congress District President from Vidisha Rakesh Katare joined the BJP on February 12. The BJP state president VD Sharma has earlier stated that some of the leaders of Congress were upset with the party rejecting the invitation for the ‘Pran Pradishta’ ceremony of Ayodhya’s Ram temple.
“If those whose names you are taking have pain in their hearts, then they are also welcome,” Mr Sharma said while addressing a press conference in Bhopal on Friday, reports NDTV.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Nakul Nath, Lok Sabha Congress MP from Madhya Pradesh, declared himself as the candidate Chhindwara seat while there was no official announcement from the party’s side. Chhindwara was a stronghold for Kamal Nath who had held the seat for nine consecutive years. In the 2019 election, despite the BJP’s victory in the 28 seats, Nakul Nath managed to win a seat from Chhindwara.
