BJP's Rudra Narayan Pany Won From BJD Bastion Dhenkanal Constituency

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Rudra Narayan Pany won from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) bastion Dhenkanal Constituency by a margin of 76,567 votes. BJP , thereby, challenged the stronghold of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Pany obtained a grand total of 5,98,721 votes, surpassing his opponents by a margin of 76,567 votes. BJD’s Abinash Samal secured the runner-up position with 522154  votes. Sashmita Behar, the candidate from the Indian National Congress, secured the third position in the constituency with 34730 votes.

Rudra Narayan Pany, 65-year-old politician holds a prominent position in the political landscape of Odisha. Pany’s political journey began in 1991 when he first entered the electoral arena as a BJP candidate for the Dhenkanal LS seat. Since then, he has consistently contested from the same constituency under the BJP banner, except for a brief period as an independent candidate in 1999.

Furthermore, Pany served as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Odisha in 2006. In the 2019 polls, he garnered significant support, by securing 4.88 lakh votes, and lost to Mahesh Sahoo of the BJD party with a victory margin of 35,412 votes, who garnered 5,22,884 votes. In 2014,  BJD’s Tathagata Satpathy emerged victorious in this seat beating Rudra Narayan Pany of BJP by a margin of 1,37,340 votes which consists 13.18% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJD secured a vote share of 43.5% in the seat.
