Sitting MP Devendra Singh won the Akbarpur Lok Sabha seat by a clear lead of 44,345 votes. As Singh secured a total of 5,17,423 votes his close rival SP’s Rajaram Pal got 4,73,078 votes.
Devendra Singh is popularly known as ‘Bhole Singh’. He started his political journey through a by- election of Derapur in 1991. He got elected as an MLA twice.
Rajaram Pal, represented 15th Lok Sabha from Akbarpur under the banner of Congress. Earlier, he has also represented Bilhaur in the 14th Lok Sabha as the member of BSP. He joined SP in 2021. Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi was the BSP candidate.
Akbarpur constituency was stablished before 1952 elections. Different candidates belong to various parties have represented Akbarpur. Akbarpur was a bastion of BSP. BSP stalwart Mayawati held Akbarpur three terms.
In 2014, Devendra Singh made his debut from Akbarpur by accumulating 4,81,584 votes; BSP’s Anil Shukla Warsi defeated by a margin of 2,78,897 votes. In 2019, Devendra Singh repeated his victory by defeating BSP’s Nisha Sachan by garnering 5,81,282 votes. He won with a margin of 2,75,142 votes. Congress relegated to third and fourth positions, in 2019, 2014 elections, respectively.
