Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: BJP's Sumitra Khan Defeated Sujata Mondal In Bishnupur

BJP Candidate Saumitra Khan won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency with a slight margin of 5,567 votes. The TMC candidate Sujata Mondal secured the runner-up position in the Bishnupur constituency.

Sujata Mondal contested elections from Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency against her former husband and BJP MP Saumitra Khan. Noticeably, in 2020, both parted ways over ideological differences.

In 2019, elections Saumitra Khan won the elections from the Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency and Sujata Mondal played a key role in his success in the parliament as she tirelessly campaigned for Khan as the High Court ordered him not to enter the constituency due to a pending criminal case against him.

In addition to the familiarity of Ms Mondal with the voters one factor that might have played a role is the resignation of Harakali Protiher who was Bishnupur BJP president for 2018-2021, from Katulpur joined Trinamool.

A Scheduled Caste reserved parliamentary constituency, Bishnupur was once a Communist Party stronghold, and in the past three consecutive elections, different political parties have represented the constituency. In 2019, BJP candidate Somitra Khan secured 46.7 percent of the votes while TMC candidate Shyamal Santra won 41.2 percent of the votes.

In 2014, Saumitra Khan contested the election from the Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency and secured 45.50% of the votes to win while the CPI (M) candidate Susmita Bauri secured the second position and BJP candidate Jayanta Mondal secured third position.

In 2004, elections Susmita Bauri won the Lok Sabha election from Bishnupur with  51.92% votes.
