Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Kirti Azad Leads By Over 49,000 Votes While Dilip Ghosh Trailing In Bardhaman Durgapur

Azad Kirti Jha of TMC has won the Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 in Bardhaman Duragapur constituency with a margin of 137981 votes. While the BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh remained at second place.

TMC fielded Kirti Azad to run from Bardhman Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency. Kirti Azad the cricketer turned politician, won the 2014 general elections on a BJP ticket from Darbhanga but was later suspended in 2015 over making some corruption-related remarks on the BJP government. In 2019, Kirti Azad joined the Congress party and fought the elections from Dhanabad but lost to Pashupati Nath Singh. Azad later joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021 and said he would be part of the party until his death. He was a player of the Indian cricket team during the 1983 World Cup whose bowling helped India win. The SC and Muslims constitute a significant portion of the Bardhman Durgapur constituency with a population of 27.41% and 20.73%.

In 2019, S. S. Ahluwalia won the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat on the BJP ticket with 41.75% votes while Trinamool Congress candidate Dr. Mamtaz Sanghamita lost the election by a slight margin by securing 41.58% votes.

In the 2014, general elections, TMC candidate Dr. Mamtaz Sanghamita won the Bardhman-Durgapur seat with an overall 41.65% votes, whereas CPI (M) candidate Saidul Haque and BJP candidate Debasree Chaudhuri were second and third positions respectively.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP fielded Dilip Ghosh and CPI (M) gave the ticket to Sukriti Ghoshal.
