Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: TMC Candidate Sharmila Sarkar Wins Election With 160572 Votes

TMC candidate Dr Sharmila Sarkar has won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Bardhman Purba Lok Sabha constituency with a total of 160572 voting margin and defeated BJP candidate Asim Kumar Sarkar.

Bardhaman Purba Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Dr Sharmila a psychiatrist by profession, was seen serving tea during her election campaign. This was Dr Sarkar’s first election as she did not have any political experience in the past.

Bardhaman Purba is a TMC stronghold as since 2014 Sunil Kumar Mandal has been the TMC MP from Bardhman Purba constituency. However, the the BJP registered a 25.39 percent upward trend in its vote share in 2019, in Bardhaman East. Bardhaman East is an SC category parliament seat with a significant SC and Muslim population at 27.41% and 20.73% respectively.

In the 2019, Lok Sabha elections, TMC candidate Sunil Kumar Mandal won the elections here with 44.52% votes while BJP candidate Paresh Chandra Das secured the second position with an overall 38.32% votes. CPI (M) candidate Ishwar Chandra Das remained in third place with 12.22 percent votes.

In 2014, TMC candidate Sunil Kumar Mandal won the election with 43.50 percent votes. The CPI (M) candidate Ishwar Chandra Das secured 34.83% votes and remained in second position. While the BJP candidate Santosh Roy secured the third place with an overall 12.93 percent votes. From 2014 to 2019, the BJP has shown remarkable progress in terms of vote gain. This year’s election result will be significant to see whether BJP will maintain its vote gain and its candidate win or the Mamata Banerjee’s charm will keep the voters in tact in the West Bengal constituency.
