Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: TMC' Deepak Adhikari (Dev) Won Over BJP's Dr Hiranmoy Chattopadhyaya With 1,82,868 Vote Margin

Trinamool Congress candidate Deepak Adhikari (Dev) has taken the lead over BJP candidate Dr Hiranmoy Chattopadhyaya with 1,82,868 votes in the the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency.

Deepak Adhikari (Dev) is one of the highest-paid actors in Tollywood and made his Tollywood debut on the silver screen with Agnishapath in 2006. He is a most sought-after Bengali actor, who has received many awards and recognitions for his acting career. In the 2014 general elections, the popularity of the actor-turned-politician helped him to secure over 50% votes. Dev was caught in controversy in 2022 in an alleged cattle smuggling case. This was the third consecutive time when the TMC leader was trusted with a party ticket to run the 18th Lok Sabha elections.

The Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency remained a Communist Party stronghold from 1977 till 2014 when Trinamool Congress registered a clean swipe and loosened the Communisit dominance in the Ghatal. The TMC candidate Dipak Adhikari won the first position while the CPI candidate Santosh Rana and INC candidate Manas Bhunia were in second and third positions with 50.70%, 31.40%, and 6.93% votes in the 2014 elections.

In 2019, the Trinamool Congress sitting MP secured 48.22 percent votes and registered his second inning. The BJP also secured a significant rise of 34.04 percent in its vote share by securing the runner–up position with an overall 40.97% votes. CPI candidate Tapan Ganguly secured the third position with 6.56% votes.

Though in the last election Dipak Adhikari secured a double win, however, this year’s chances for the BJP were good considering its previous year’s performance.
