BJP candidate Jyotirmay Singh Mahato won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Purulia Lok Sabha constituency with a total of 17,079 vote margin. The AITC candidate Shantiram Mahato was declared as the runner-up candidate.

In 2000, Mahato became a member of the student branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), known as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). After that, he joined the BJP and ran for office in the 2016 assembly elections, coming in third.

In 2019, the BJP candidate Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato won the elections with 49.33 percent votes. However, the TMC candidate lost the election after securing 34.19 percent votes. The INC and AIFB came third and fourth with 6.23% and 5.05% votes respectively.

This year Trinamool Congress fielded Santiram Mahato, INC to Nepal Mahato, and AIFB to Dhirendra Nath Mahato to contest the Lok Sabha Election 2024.
