Despite the hurdles, the Congress on Wednesday made it categorically clear that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will start from Manipur on January 14. Addressing a press conference by Congress general secretary organisation KC Venugopal and general secretary in charge communications Jairam Ramesh revealed that the BJP led-Manipur government had denied permission to launch the Yatra from the Palace Ground in Imphal. “May be they are scared of this yatra”, KC Venugopal remarked.
Venugopal said that though party assured repeatedly that the Nyay Yatra was not political, the Manipur government declined the permission while it has been holding its programmes in the state. The party was searching for alternate venues and the state leaders including former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president K Meghachandra Singh were in touch with the state Chief Minister on the matter, he added. He then disclosed that the Chief Minister had agreed verbally to one of the alternate venues.
Besides launching a website, www.bharatjodonyayatra.com, the Congress leaders has also issued a booklet detailing the purpose and motto of the Yatra. Aside from that, through the phone number 9891802024 people can register their participation in the Nyay Yatra. Furthermore, Congress will be registering the ‘Nyay Yodhas’ who will participate in the yatra and will be working outside as well.
Venugopal then added that while he visited the states of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam during the past two days, he had witnessed unprecedented enthusiasm and energy in the field. Nyay Yatra will be a grand success like the Bharat Jodo Yatra, General secretary added.
In response to a question, KC Venugopal said that Congress had invited all INDIA bloc leaders to participate in the Yatra as per their convenience. While stating that Yatra was not political, General Secretary at the same time added that party is preparing for the 2024 General Elections simultaneously.
Adding further, Venugopal said that there is no confusion between the Yatra and the election preparations. Congress will be holding the meeting of the coordinators of all parliamentary constituencies on January 12.
