Amidst the buzz going around the launching of second phase of the Bharat Jodo Yatra by Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, as per the latest reports, it would feature Gandhi siblings together. The grand old party proposes that in the foot march, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi walk alongside, sources revealed to the Times of India. Congress is likely to begin Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0 in January 2024, and it will be from the east to the west of the country.

“The proposal that the sister join the brother in the entire yatra has been discussed. But a final decision has to be taken. There are many factors to be considered because of the Parliamentary polls that follow soon,” TOI quotes as a key Congress leader saying.

Aside from the attention it may bring, Congress think that it would serve different social grounds as Rahul Gandhi would present as overall leader, and Priyanka Gandhi”s presence would generate interest among women, youths and the rural population. In the first yatra from south-to-north Priyanka Gandhi had joined Rahul Gandhi at some locations so does other top leaders and state party representatives.

The Congress Working Committee suggested Wayanad MP partake in the second edition of the Bharat Jodo Yatra under the purview of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Since the party realised that they could not spend another four to five months on the road, Congress is planning this to be a hybrid yatra. As per this proposal, the walk will be concentrated on key areas in cities and towns in states, and the rest of the journey will be covered by transport.

Sources also revealed that involvement of Priyanka Gandhi in the yatra would enable Rahul Gandhi to participate in election programmes or meetings away, TOI reports.

With the aim of uniting India, Rahul Gandhi led the Bharat Jodo Yatra in last year. Started on September 7, after having travelled 4,000 km and went on for 136 days, it had concluded on January 30 in Srinagar. The march has covered 12 states and two Union Territories. The long foot march was successful and had boosted Congress” image among the people.
