Rahul Kaswan, the incumbent MP, continued the winning streak for a third time in Churu Lok Sabha constituency. Though he had managed to increase the vote share for BJP in the last two terms, i.e., 2014 and 2019, with a majority of 2,94,739 and 3,34,402 votes, respectively. Rahul Kaswan is a turncoat this time; since he was denied a BJP ticket in the constituency, and he joined Congress for maintaining the winning streak.
The BJP defector won by a majority of 72,737 votes and bagged 728,211 votes, in total. It comprises 51.12 percent of polls registered in the constituency.
Devendra Jhajharia, a legendary para-athlete, and the BJP candidate couldn’t be successful despite his sports career. He had won many medals for the nation and made the whole nation proud many times, though his political debut didn’t bring him success.
Devendra had secured 6,55,474 votes with 46.01 percent of total votes registered in the constituency.
The constituency had a dramatic affair in this election, featuring former allies turned adversaries, family politics, and caste dynamics. The constituency is also facing a major rift between the Rathore family and Kaswan family.
Churu constituency, in which Congress governs five assembly constituencies, had the upper hand in the Lok Sabha elections, while the BJP managed to bag only two seats and the BSP secured one seat in the constituency.
