This year, it was an intense fight between YSRCP, BJP, and INC (Indian National Congress). While YSRCP kept its confidence in Midhun Reddy, BJP fielded Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and four times MP. Leaving Congress, he joined BJP in 2023. Congress has fielded S K Basheed, a new face in the arena. Midhun Reddy won the seat for third consecutive term with a margin of 76,071 votes. Rajampet is one of the four seats that YSRCP managed to win the election.

Rajampet is one of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. It comprises 6 assembly seats including areas from Annamaya, Kadappa, and Chittoor districts. It was a Congress bastion from the beginning. The party has won the seat 11 times in Rajampet since its formation in 1957. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has won twice, YSRCP (Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party) once, and Swatantra Party once.

Since 2014, the seat is under the clasp of YSRCP. This is the third consecutive Lok Sabha election for Midhun Reddy from Rajampet, as he clinched victory in 2014, by defeating BJP’s Daggubatti Purandeswari over the margin of 174,762 votes. Congress being the major player until 2009 general election, came last with 29,332 votes.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Midhun Reddy retained the seat by defeating TDP’s DA Satya Prabha over the margin of 268,284 votes. Congress stayed away from the battle and did filed any candidate.
