Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, A Royal Daughter In Law To Contest Her Fifth Lok Sabha Election From Bolangir

Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo the BJP sitting MP from Bolangir is set to contest elections from the constituency for her fifth term in the lower house. Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency is set to go for elections on May 20, 2024 (Phase 5). Surendra Singh Bhoi is the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate and Manoj Mishra is the Congress candidate from Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency.

Sangeeta Kumari is the wife of the titular Maharaja of Bolangir, an erstwhile princely state in Odisha. She won the Bolangir Lok Sabha seat in 1998, 1999 and 2004, and 2019. Sangeeta grew up in a middle-class environment and graduated from Delhi University with a BA in political science.

Her last year’s Lok Sabha performance registered 92% attendance, participated in 49 debates and 502 questions asked by her. Sangeeta’s work in the constituency was focused on women workers’ security and labor rules, Science and Technology, Tourism promotion, sports, agriculture, and administration-related issues in her constituency and state.

Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency

Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency comprises Nawapara, Titligarh, Kantabanji, Patnagarh, Saintala, Loisinga, and Bolangir. The BJD won 4 seats, 2 by INC and 1 by BJP. In 2019, BJP candidate Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo won the elections with 38.12 votes defeating Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo (36.62% votes). However, BJD Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo won the Bolangir constituency seat twice in 2009 and 2014.

Bolangir is a general category parliament seat comprised of Bolangir district and Subarnapur district. The SC, ST, and Muslim populations comprised 20.1%, 17.76%, and 1.6% in the constituency.

The Lok Sabha election results in 2024 will be announced on June 4, 2024, in the Bolangir.
