Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo won from Odisha’s Bolangir Lok Sabha Constituency.
Sangeeta received a total of 6,17,744 votes, and won by a margin of 1,32,664 votes. The close rival, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD)’s Surendra Singh Bhoi came second with 4,23,309 votes. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Manoj Mishra secured third position in the constituency with 1,97,091 votes.
Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo is the incumbent MP from Bolangir. She also serves as the National executive of the party. She hails from the Rajput nobility of Rajasthan.
Earlier, Sangeeta emerged winner in the Bolangir Lok Sabha seat in the years – 1998, 1999, and 2004. However, she faced defeat in the polls held in 2009 and 2014, losing to her husband’s first cousin, Kalikesh Singh Deo, who is a prominent member of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). In the 2009 elections, Sangeeta secured the third position, whereas in 2014 polls, she came runner-up.
In 2019 election, BJP’s Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo defeated BJD’s Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo by a margin of 19,516 votes. And in 2014 election, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo defeated Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo by a margin of 1,04,299 votes.
