In a big setback to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, several key leaders of the National Conference (NC) in the Jammu region, have left the party and joined the BJP. As the months ahead of Lok Sabha polls approached, many supporters and district office bearers of the party shifted allegiance from the NC to the saffron party.
They joined the party at its headquarters in Jammu, and Ravinder Raina, BJP”s Jammu and Kashmir unit chief and other leaders has welcomed them on Sunday. Welcoming the new entrants, State unit chief said that the BJP has worked for the welfare of people irrespective of region and religion.

The leaders who switched their sides include senior leader and NC”s Kathua (Rural) district president, Sanjeev Khajuria and other prominent leaders. Sanjeev Khajuria, lauding Modi government, said that people are benefitted by the welfare schemes at the ground level. Prime Minister has made every Indian proud across the borders and the new world order sees India with high hopes now, he added.
Meanwhile, Former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta in a separate event has requested the cadres to strengthen the party at the booth level to confirm victory in the upcoming elections.
Addressing a gathering, Kavinder Gupta underlined the BJP”s commitment to serving the people and spoke about the challenges faced by Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the importance of reaching out to voters, especially the women and the youngsters, in order to counter opposition parties narratives.
Rekha Mahajan, senior BJP leader has also welcomed the new members and requested them to work with commitment in order to strengthen the BJP”s base at the booth level.
