Union Home Minister Amit Shah has won the Gandhinagar seat with more than 10 lakh votes, a record vote share in the history of Gandhinagar seat.

Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah wins the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The saffron leader has increased his vote margin to 7,44,716 votes, which was 5,57,014 votes in 2019 election. According to the Election Commission data, Amit Shah has bagged 10,10,972 votes, which is a record vote share in the history of Gandhinagar seat.

The BJP’s star campaigner has been the union home minister since 2019, in the second term of the Modi Government in the centre. He was served as the president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2014 to 2020. Shah was the member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly since 1997 to 2017 and various ministries in government of Gujarat from 2002 to 2017. He is the chairman of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) since 2014. After two years of tenure in the Rajya Sabha from 2017 to 2019, he was elected to the Lower House in 2019 bagging 43.38 percent of votes from Gandhinagar constituency.

Congress candidate Sonal Ramanbhai Patel, the Congress candidate is serving as the secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC). She had contested from Naranpur Assembly seat in 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections but lost to BJP’s Jitendra Patel.

The Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency has been the fortress of the saffron party since 1989, which has elected saffron leaders including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former Deputy PM LK Advani with large margin of votes. It has been politically important in the political fray of Indian politics. In 2019 elections, Home Minister Amit Shah has won the seat bagging more than 8 lakh votes by defeating Congress’s Dr. C.J Chavda.
