Media House Posts BJP's Instagram Card As It Is, Trolled

An Instagram card posted by India’s one of the reputed media houses, India Today is being trolled for allegedly sharing the BJP’s Instagram card as it is. The post captioned “Bro Promoted Culture like no one could ever do.” The card can be seen with the background image of Prime Minister Modi greeting one of the Hindu deities. The post included some other pictures of the prime minister captioning with Bro promoted tourism, Bro promoted UPI, Bro promoted startups etc.  However, by sharing the post as it is, media house India Today invited trolling and criticism from the netizens.

A user, balaghat 123 commented, “Bro purchased India Today” while another user, mr-indian-pol commented, “Bro purchased India Today like no one ever could,” sarcastically suggesting the media house”s obvious campaign to the BJP”s interest.

Noting the increasing trend among the Indian media to support the ruling party, another user wrote, “Bro purchased the whole media like no one ever could. Several other comments also noted the emerging trend of biased reporting while reflecting the declining standard of journalism in India.

Another user sarcastically advised the media house to change its name from India Today to India yesterday-Modi Today. Many others termed the post a mere advertisement campaign by a news channel to attract people towards a political party.

Noting the serious aspects of the media house in India, Newslaundry managing editor Manisha Pande took to his social media and wrote, “Insta post on India Today’s handle, the comments are quite telling. Even BJP supporters I think see through the bootlicking they are served in the name of news.”

However, adding to the growing allegations against Indian media houses of being the mouthpiece of the ruling BJP, the post by India Today exposed the media bias in literal meaning.

According to a survey conducted by Statista in 2022, 45 per cent of the respondents opined that media in India reported stories favouring Prime Minister Modi’s government while only 11 per cent opined that the media favourable portrayed opposition parties.

The survey further stated that around 37 per cent of respondents also reported that news organizations covered the opposition party too unfavourably. However, the survey added that the Indian new consumers are aware of the biased media reporting.
