Following a spate of unpleasant incidents in relation to the Indian eateries, one of the popular restaurants in Ahmedabad, Devi Dosa in Nikol became the latest to witness the plight of India’s culinary nightmare when a customer found a rat in sambar.

Adding more concerns to the deteriorating hygienic quality of food in the restaurants, a customer of the Devi Dosa reported a distressing experience of having found a dead rat in a bowl of sambar. The video of the customer showing the dead rat swimming in the sambar has gone viral on social media, with people expressing their worry over frequent food safety violations.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a notice to the restaurant owner citing severe health and hygiene violations after the customer informed the Corporation about the incident.

Following the incident, Corporation Food Safety Officer Bhavin Joshi appealed to all business operators of Ahmedabad Corporation to be “very careful with the food they serve to the customers” to avoid the recurrence of such incidents.

Notably, the latest disrobing experience came just two days after a 26-year-old doctor from Malad West found a human finger inside an ice cream. According to reports, the police suspect that the finger could be one of the staffers working at the Pune factory of Yummo Ice Creams, noting that the employee had recently suffered a finger injury. In another incident in the same day, a couple was shocked to see a live cobra inside an Amazon package, creating public outcry on the state of food security.

Netizens are asking the food and drug department take strict actions against such incidents and not to take money under the table, giving approvals to such hotels.
