Ram Mohan Naidu Wins Srikakulam Lok Sabha Seat For Third Consecutive Term (RamMNK)

The Srikakulam Lok Sabha constituency plays a significant role in Andhra Pradesh’s politics. The constituency has given almost equal opportunity to all the key parties. TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu retained the seat with the majority of a whopping 3,27,901 votes for third consecutive term. He has been winning the seat since 2014. While YSRCP came second, Congress came third with mere 7,172 votes.

Since its inception, the seat has been won by Indian National Congress (INC) eight times, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) seven times. This year, the battle was between sitting Kinjarapu MP Ram Mohan Naidu of TDP, Perada Tilak of YSRCP, and Pedada Parameswara Rao of Congress. An independent candidate won from the seat in 1952, when the constituency was formed.

The independent candidate named Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao later joined Congress and won from the seat for five terms from 1957 to 1980, except Swatantra Party winning in 1967. Srikakulam is the one among the two constituencies that did not fall under the YSRCP (Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party) wave in 2019, when the party has won 22 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats of Andhra Pradesh.

Since 2014, the party has been under the clasp of Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, son of former MP and Union Minister, Yerrannaidu Kinjarapu. During the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Ram Mohan has won the seat by defeating YSRCP’s Reddy Shanthi, and INC’s Killi Krupa Rani, who own the 2004 general election, over the margin of 127,572 votes.

In 2019 general election, Ram Mohan clinched victory over the seat with a margin of mere 6,653 votes. He won the seat by defeating YSRCP’s Duvvada Srinivas and JSP’s (Jana Sena Party) Metta Ramarao. Congress was at the fourth place.
